Our Furry Friends That Touch Our Heart And Soul

Tina Marie
Is it any wonder that we come to love our furry friends so much? The softness of their fur, their mischievous grins, their crazy capers, their loyalty, unending love and faithfulness. They enter our hearts, homes and sometimes, our very souls. When we are apart from them they grieve for us, the trust us with their very lives. No matter how we look, feel, smell or think they still love us and want to be with us. No matter how bad we've messed up they are still there for us.

I've had many pets over the years, a black and white cat named Spooky, and numerous other cats including one named Twoey and a few dogs including my beloved Petey. They've seen me through some tough times and have supported me and comforted me when my world has fallen apart. They only asked to be loved in return which I was more then glad to do.

My Petey passed on the year before last and he is still deeply missed today. He was a beautiful little dog of Pomeranian and Dachshund mix although he looked more like a baby deer and was actually mistaken by our Mayor and Police Chief who thought he was a baby deer when they drove by our home. He was tiny with long legs but he would defend me to the end. He would lie next to me and lick my hand to comfort me and he never wandered more than a few steps from me. When I'd go out for the day he'd wait at the window watching for me until I returned. Most nights when I sleep and dream he is there, letting me pet him and hold him again.

I had started having a lot of doubts in my faith before Petey passed away but after I lost him someone sent me a copy of the Rainbow Bridge Poem and it reinforced my beliefs knowing that I will get to be with him again one day. I also used to be scared of dying, afraid of the unknown. I'm not anymore, not as long as I know my Petey will be there for me.

How one small dog could touch my life so deeply is still a mystery to me. The impact he had on my life, my faith, my heart and my very soul still amazes me.

That's what pets do for us. Love us unconditionally, accept us for who we are and could care less how we look, how much money we may or may not have or have fancy the house is. I've always had cats and dogs as far back as I can remember. I remember all of them too. They are all very special and even though they are with your Petey, they remain here with me, too.

I agree with you. I currently have two cats and I love them as if they were family. When one of my cats died suddenly and unexpectedly last summer, my husband and I were grief-stricken.

Once they touch our hearts they never leave. Pets are the true definition of unconditional love.
