We have carefully laid out our trip with dates, times and destinations in our minds and with a budget but we seem to have steered off course or in boating terms, went adrift and now we know not where we are in our journey. The future is ours to see but with no present position known!
Many things have changed since we started our adventure to Honduras. Of course most notably and most far reaching in its effect is the global economic changes that have slowed the housing market, slowed tourism and thrown many a dream under the bus, off the road or at least on a detour.
We are I believe on a detour. You know the kind, it innocently displays a sign that says, Detour this way >>>> and so you follow with confidence knowing the sign will lead the way. Then after a bit you start thinking, where are we? Did we miss a turn or another sign that would have led us in another direction? Ahhhgg I hope not, there is no place to turn around. If we missed a turn we will have to go waaaay out of our way to get back to where we were suppose to go or at worse case scenario we could be LOST! Ahhgg, how did we end up here? Oh wait a minute there's another sign up ahead maybe it will tell us where we are or where we are to suppose to go ....
Yes, yes there it is, Paradise this way! >>>. Oh but it is a toll road, we don't have the correct change. There is another sign that says alternate route; I think that means, "the long way", but I am not sure. I guess we will have to take that one.
We have seen all these signs in the past months and have followed along in confidence at times and in others with decided concern. We need to sell our home in Colorado before we can go leave to follow our dream. We have accomplished much, we have finished what is to be our guest villa in Honduras and it is ready to rent by the night by the week or longer. It is so beautiful and peaceful there unlike this present journey. The road has become bumpy and full of pitfalls at times causing the most earnest believer to take pause.
My husband has a steady hand at the wheel; he says if we keep going in the right direction we will eventually arrive at intended destination. This is true in my estimation but now not as certain that we are still going in the right direction. I have to keep licking my finger and testing the wind. I need to make sure we didn't misjudge or misread the road we are on. The signs seem to be ambiguous at best and I have always been very good at reading signs.
Yet we are not discouraged from our dream at all and that is the good thing. As in all tests in life there is the meat of the thing that you can learn from and take with you. We do not know all the when's or how's or probably even all the why's of our quest but we know that we are still looking. We are on the road, have set sail, taken wing or whatever other descriptive words one would like to apply.
We are following our dream to live in paradise, to work at something we love, to create a new life together that is of our design. We do not know at the moment where this will take us exactly or how long it will take to get there, but we do know that if you do not take the journey you will never arrive....
To all of you fellow dreamers who are on this path we salute your endeavor and we believe in your dream. Yes, it takes good planning, money, a bit of luck, but more it takes fortitude and determination to see this journey through, the fruition of your dreams fulfilled. The easily dispirited best stay home....
I will continue to write of our journey and our story. We thought it was just a story of buying, building and moving to Honduras and now we find it is a journey of the spirit. We realize that what we thought was to be our adventure was really just the opening of one door to open another door.
The way is not always clear but the destination is clearly fixed in the heart. The destination is not so much a place but a lifestyle. The destination is never as important as the journey.
This is an ariticle in a series I am writing, "Our Honduras Story".
