When i was younger my mother most of the time let us tough out what accident we had, and if we had to go to the doctors office it was the one that was considered the cheapest in our town. We did not have great health coverage, but at least we had it. Some of the kids in my town never went to the doctors because their parents had no insurance for them.
What is the cause of all of this? Why can we not afford good health coverage for us and our children? The answer lies in our economy right now. Our economy is not in the best of shape, in fact more people are on Social Security right now than there have ever been in the past. The fact is that everyone whether young or old need health coverage.
There needs to be affordable health care available out there for the working class. Many children each year die that could have been saved if it were for proper health care. There are more state and federal plans for healthcare out there, but most have very specific guidelines, and if something is looked over either on your behalf or theirs, then your child will be refused. It is a very sad thing to have to tell someone that their daughter or son cannot see a doctor because they don't have adequate health coverage. Some medical facilities even ban people from being seen there if they have a bill that is pass due. Outragous but true, I know it happened to me.
My mother did not have much she was a single mother, and obviously we had to see the doctor every now and then. One time I sprang my foot and had to see the doctor. I had to wait one day to go to the doctors office because our doctors office was closed at the time, and our health care plan did not cover emergency room visits. Basically, we could not afford to go to the emergency room. I ended up seeing my doctor the next day and getting a cast on while i was there. About 3 years later I get a call on my home telephone telling me that I was not approved for a home loan because i had three medical bills on my credit report that were in such a negative balance that they would have to be paid primarily. I did not remember anything of the sort, so I asked the dates of those medical bills. They were from my sprung foot that I had when i was seventeen years old. My mothers insurance only covered one hundred dollars of the entire bill, which was fifteen-hundred dollars. They banned me from coming back there and told me if i did not pay it, then i would not be eligible to ever seek services with them again. I informed them that i was underage at the time, and i gave them my mothers information. Low and behold it got paid, however, it was just the fact that although my mother paid eighty dollars a week for medical coverage, on an average family plan they only footed one hundred dollars of the bill. It seems like she was paying way too much, however, it was only insurance that she could get her hands on through her job.
Many incidences occur every day. If we don't have adequate health coverage, how will we be seen to take better care of ourselves? Look around for the best plan that is available, and if a job offers health insurance, grab it and do not let go, because it is very scarce.
