Our Labor Day Barbecue Featuring Turkey Hamburgers

Bernadette
The other night we went shopping at a local supermarket for a few last minute Labor Day barbecue necessities. Among other items, we bought a one-pound package of turkey ground meat, a package of plain frozen bagels, and some fresh corn on the cob.

On Labor Day, we decided to make hamburgers from half of the ground turkey meat using my mother's tasty recipe. My husband shaped the prepared ground turkey meat into two patties. They were enormous!

While our gas barbecue grill was being preheated, my husband peeled a large Bermuda onion. We would later place a slice of the Bermuda onion on our turkey hamburger when we assembled our turkey hamburger sandwich.

Now it was soon time for my husband to place the two turkey hamburgers on the barbecue grill and proceed to grill the turkey hamburgers. My husband was also in charge of grilling two ears of corn on the cob. When the turkey hamburgers were almost ready to remove from the grill, my husband toasted his plain bagel on the grill, but not my plain bagel. To me the bagel tastes better if it is not toasted when eaten with a hamburger. On the side burner of our gas barbecue grill, he prepared a can of vegetarian baked beans according to the label directions.

While my husband grilled the turkey hamburgers and did the other food related chores, my chore was to set the table on our backyard deck. Believe me, my job was much easier than his job. Well, anyway at least he enjoys grilling and cooking outdoors. Come to think of it, he also enjoys cooking indoors.

Soon my husband had grilled the turkey hamburgers to perfection and they were ready to be assembled into a mouthwatering sandwich. We placed our turkey hamburger on the bagel bottom, added a slice of the Bermuda onion, lots of ketchup, and then the bagel top. The both of us love ketchup! We were now ready to take a bite of this delicious looking turkey hamburger sandwich. Yummy, the turkey hamburger sandwich tasted as good as it looked.

Along with the food mentioned above, we also ate a cucumber from our backyard vegetable garden with our Labor Day dinner. The cucumber was crispy and juicy, and tasted delicious. If you would like to read my article about the cucumbers growing in our backyard vegetable garden, click here. For our beverage, we drank a glass of cranberry juice. It was a perfect meal for Labor Day.

Oh, well now it is time to clean up and wash the dinner dishes.
