Our Memorial Day Soldiers

Rebecca Rosenburg

I was once married to a disabled veteran, and many of my family members and friends survived several wars. On this Memorial Day, I would like to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. This poem is written with current events in mind. Veterans, thank you for your service to our country. To those who lost a loved one, may your loss never be in vain.

He died today

That brave young man

While fighting forces

In Afghanistan

He joins the others

Who so bravely fought

For our freedoms

Was it all for naught

His memory today

Will bring us tears

But when the 'morrow comes
We'll have only our fears
