Our Obsession with Sex and Drugs All in One Place: Check Out Swingtown CBS' New Series

Premiere June 5th

Set in the 1970s this new show 'Swingtown' can expect some polar reviews. It has already been up for heated debate on popular news channel CNN. The underlying message, is what would you do if you could go back in time? The theme involves sex, drugs and lots more sex and drugs.

Swinging started in the 1950s with people placing personal ads for other adults who were interested. Interestingly, the show is set in the 1970s. It features upper class Americans who live in the suburbs.

Shocking? No! It has already been ingrained in our culture that sex, drugs and immorality will sell. But what really is the message behind Swingtown? Well, after looking at the previews, one is expected to think, "Hmm, what would I do?" The first episode features three married couples. The main characters, Tom, (Grant Show) a handsome pilot and his stewardess wife, Trina (Lana Parilla) are encouraging their new neighbors to 'try' this new swingers lifestyle.

Susan (Molly Parker) is married to Bruce (Jack Davenport), an up and coming business man. They are hesitant at first. But then, fascinated by this new way of thinking, they jump right on board. In one scene, Trina offers Susan a 'Quaalude" and suggests that it will take the edge off before they embark into this new world. The experiences are opening up new doors for this couple and will trigger a host of other episodes.

When referring to the two different types of personalities, the show suggest that there are 'swingers' and 'squares.' Which category do you fall into? You can go to the CBS website and catch previews and out-takes.

Claims that it is disgusting and racy are already surfacing. So what do you think? In the end, the viewers make the choices. Many times, we expect these type of shows to be cast on Prime Time channels like HBO or Starz. The content usually appeals to the late night watchers. CBS is primarily known for its reality based shows and popular fiction like CSI and other late night shows.

A combination of sex, drugs and infidelity just sounds like some other popular content that we already see on TV? The only lure is that it is set in the early 70s which gives old and young viewers pictures of what those times might have been like.

Swingers today have many more options that they did back then. You can find singles, couples, gay and lesbian, wife swapping and a host of other information. Many websites are dedicated to helping swingers get the ultimate rush. One thing is for sure, this new series will definitely have viewers!

I'm guessing that the more controversy this show stirs, the more viewers it will draw. That usually seems to be how things go. Enjoyed the article - thanks :)
