Our Southern Cornbread Thanksgiving Recipe

Zacharoo
While this article does say "Thanksgiving" in the title, cornbread is good stuff and can be made and eaten all year round. Thats how we roll with cornbread in the south anyways. Cornbread is very basic, I mean the name pretty much gives it away, bread made from corn. But it does take a little more than just some good old corn. Let me just say this too: cornbread is cheap and easy to make. Most of the ingredients you will already have in your home!

You will need:

2 Eggs

2 Tablespoons Vegetable Oil

1 Cup Water

1/2 Cup Buttermilk

2 Cups Old Fashioned Stone Ground Corn Meal

2 Teaspoons Baking Powder

1 Teaspoon Salt

1 Tablespoon Sugar, Optional

Preheat oven to 450o Fahrenheit. You will need a 9 inch baking pan. Place the greased cast iron skillet or metal baking pan in oven to heat. Beat eggs in mixing bowl. Add remaining ingredients in order listed; stir until well blended. Pour batter into hot pan and bake 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Nothing to making cornbread. Quick and easy. Just don't forget about it and leave it in the oven too long. Burnt cornbread is never good. Depending on how sweet you want it you can add different things. Cornbread is best while still warm right out of the oven I typically like to add butter to the top while it is warm. You can also add honey for a sweet addition.
