Our Trip to IHOP

While Visions of Funnel Cake Drenched in Strawberries and Whipped Cream Danced in My Head

Heather Shockney
We recently had the experience of enjoying dinner at the new IHOP that had just opened about a month ago. I had never eaten at IHOP; there had never been any in the area we live. I had seen all the commercials showing the French toast with fruit toppings and the mounds of pancakes smothered in syrup and longed for the day I could eat there. This summer the news came that an IHOP was coming to our neighborhood I was beyond thrilled. They also kept having IHOP commercials advertising a new dish consisting of funnel cake covered in strawberries and cool whip. So I began my wait for the local IHOP to open its doors. A few months later it did and the lines waiting to get it were terrible so I kept waiting until one Saturday we were out doing some shopping and we were trying to figure out what to have for dinner and I suggested we give the IHOP a try. We got there and went in there was a short line so we waited for around five minutes or so to be seated. The place was packed but we were able to have a booth table by the window. Our waitress came and took our drink orders while we looked at the menus.

The choice of what to pick was tough .I didn't see the funnel cake dish listed on the menu so I choose the French toast platter. When the waitress took our orders I told her what I would like and then I told her what I had came to IHOP to have but I didn't see it listed. She checked and sure enough they still had the funnel cake. This made my day. We waited for approximately fifteen minutes to get our food. This really wasn't that bad of a wait considering the place was wall-to-wall people. I finally had the dish I had been craving for months. Now would it live up to my expectations? I took a bite of the funnel cake first and it brought back memories of carnivals and the fair. I tried a bite of the funnel cake with the strawberry topping it was delicious. The whipped cream just added to the great taste. This is definitely not a dish for the health conscious person. My entrée also included sausage and eggs along with a side of hash browns. This was a very filling meal I couldn't eat but half of the funnel cake and a few bites of the other things. This would be a great meal to share with a friend or loved one. The hash browns were wonderful they had lots of flavor. Usually I cover mine in ketchup but there was no need with these.

My daughter had chicken strops and French fries. Usually she doesn't eat more then a few bites but this time she ate everything she had. The chicken strips were real chicken not some mashed up processed type of chicken. The fries had just the right amount of seasoning. My husband enjoyed the breakfast platter. This included eggs, hash browns, sausage, and pancakes. He also ordered toast and two extra eggs. All of the food was cooked just right and tasted great. The waitress we had was wonderful as well. The only thing I didn't really like was some of the prices. The extra toast my husband ordered was a dollar and the eggs were a dollar apiece. This seemed a bit pricey to me. But I figured since we don't go out to eat that often I was going to complain. Over all our first trip to IHOP was a great one. We will definitely visit again. Writing this is making me hungry for pancakes right now.

No long lines at IHOP? That would be something alright. All of ours are always packed on the weekends to the point where we avoid them. During the week it's a little better.
IHOP has terrific food but their prices do leave something to be desired. When you can buy an entire carton of eggs for $1.00 at the store, one would think that maybe a .50 add on would be better?
    LOL
Glad you enjoyed your first experience!

I can't picture having long lines to get into an IHOP. We have two and they are always, always dead. We end up going there because we know it will be the only place in town with no line.
