Out of the Ordinary Attractions in New York State

Regina Sass
New York State has a lot to offer, beyond the more popular and well known attractions. Not very many states can say they have a whole town of mediums. They are all in the upstate region, one of the most popular tourist destinations, but there are places that tend to get overlooked on a normal vacation trip. Each one of these will help to make a vacation a bit more memorable and give you something different to talk about.

House of Frankenstein Wax Museum and Dr. Morbid's Haunted House
213 Canada Street
Lake George, New York 12845
Phone : 518-668-3377

They say Foolish Mortals Beware. This is not your ordinary run of the mill wax museum. These wax figures move, talk and even scream. This may not be for the very young, because you have to go all the way through, there is no turning back. The museum and haunted house are open seasonally form the middle of May to the end of October.

Lucy-Desi Museum
10 W. Third St.,
Jamestown, New York
716-484-0800

Lucy really was born in Jamestown, New York just like her character on I Love Lucy. The museum is in a store front that just happens to have once been the place where Lucy bought her first bottle of Henna Rinse. The museum has rotating exhibits that feature Lucy's wedding dress, costumes and props from the show and audio clips. Every year at the end of May they hold a festival hosted by Luci Arnaz.

Lilly Dale, the Spiritualists Town
Lily Dale Assembly
5 Melrose Park
PO Box 248
Lily Dale, New York 14752
Phone: (716) 595-8721
Fax: (716) 595-2442

You cannot live in Lilly Dale unless you are a medium, psychic or spiritualist. You can come and get a private reading or sign up for a workshop. There are daily and weekly activities, mediumship demonstrations, healing services, evening entertainment. There is excellent fishing and camping in the area too. The town is just south of Buffalo.

Petrified Creatures Museum
US Highway 20,
Richfield Springs, NY

The Petrified Creatures Museum has been around for 70 years. The site is an old fossil dig and you can still dig and keep what you find. The kids will love the life size blue dinosaurs that talk about themselves. It is out of the way, but if you are in the Albany/Syracuse area, take the time to drive out. It is only about an hour from each city.
