Out of the Ordinary Mother's Day Gift Ideas

STACY
Mother's Day is a day to show your mom how much she means to you. Whether you buy your mom a gift, take her out to eat, or just spend some quality time with your mom, it is important that you recognize your mom for all that she has done for you. Often times it is hard to find a gift that suits your mother. So here is a list of some ideas of things your mom might enjoy on her special day.

One of the most sentimental gifts is to make your mom a scrapbook. These are rather simple to do and can be fairly cheap depending on how much you would like to put into the scrapbook. There is a computer program called Creating Keepsakes scrapbook designer. This program makes it super easy to make and print scrapbook pages. I found my program at Dollar General for fewer than twenty dollars. Try to find pictures your mom may never have seen or may not have seen any many years. Ask relatives if they have any pictures of your mom when she was younger or any of you with your mom.

Another very sentimental gift is a memory video. Get some old home videos. Again ask relatives if they might have any you could use. Piece together bits of different videos with some back ground music or you could simply make it a slide show of pictures with music. This is sure to bring tears to any mother's eyes.

When's the last time you had a family portrait taken. For many families, especially ones where all the kids are grown and have families of their own, it has been many years. Get all the children together and have a family portrait done. Frame an 8 x 12 or larger and give it to your mom. She will love to have a picture of all her children together. You could even include spouses and grandchildren so that she has all of her loved ones together in one picture.

If your mother's parents have passed away then something she might enjoy is a character of her parents together. These can be a little on the pricey side (somewhere in the $100 range) but they are well worth it. I have a character of my grandparents that is just beautiful. The artist just asked for a picture of my grandmother and a picture of my grandfather and then she drew them together.

Another very neat gift is a picture frame. I have seen one advertised through Avon that is perfect for Mother's day. It is a tree with little oval picture frames hanging from each branch. It is supposed to resemble a family tree of sorts. This would be a great gift to give to your mom and let her put the pictures she chooses in it or you could fill the frames yourself before you give it to her.

If you have a spa in your area you could buy your mom a spa gift certificate. An even better idea is to spend the day with your mom at the spa. Most mothers are so busy these days that they rarely get to spend the time that they would like with their children, especially once their children become adults.

If you plan on getting your mom flowers for Mother's day I suggest buying her potted flowers. Most women love flowers but hate the fact that they die so quickly. If you buy your mother a potted plant or flower then she can repot it into her own garden or flower bed. Then every year when the flower blooms she will be reminded of you.

One of my favorite gifts is fudge. Some towns are lucky enough to have a gourmet candy shop. Fudge can be a little pricey at these shops. My local shop sells it for about $9 per pound but it is worth every penny. They sale chocolate fudge, peanut butter fudge, strawberry fudge, white chocolate fudge, and so many more. They wrap it is a cute little box and tie it with elegant ribbon. It looks like a million bucks and taste even better. If you don't have a local gourmet candy store you can always find a recipe online and make it your self. Find you a little box and some nice ribbon and you have the same effect. Any mother who likes chocolate would love this.

Of course there are all the usual Mother's day gifts such as jewelry, lotions, perfumes, candles, and dinner. All of which are great ideas. It is just nice to think outside the box sometimes and do something out of the ordinary.
