"There's nothing to do!"
Their boredom is constant
And it's only day two
Summer is here
Of that there's no doubt
I bought them new bikes
But they still won't go out
Instead they sit slumped
In the hot leather chair
Sitting all day,
They just slouch there and stare
Summer is here
Oh boy
Summer... is... really.... here....
Oh joy
My cupboards are bare
The kids eat food all day
They sit and argue
And refuse to go play
The kids are so lucky
Mom loves them a lot
Or else I'd pack my clothes
And head for some exotic spot
Hope you enjoy YOUR summer!!

Post a CommentVery clever and humorous. Great job!
It's sad when the U.S. Government, by using Shrek ads, has to encourage kids to spend at least a half-hour (or was it a WHOLE hour) outside playing! Not working. Playing. You can't even get them to play these days, what with the computer... Now learn from me, type, type, type. Errr....
Hahahahaha! This is great, Jennifer! So many kids are like this, a lot of moms relate. Just the other day I was w/ my great-nephew (AC's young political writer, Raymond Lady). He was saying abt how his mom used to have to kick him & his younger brother outside to "play" sometimes in the summer. Being a very studious kid, he just wanted to read. So they thought being forced out to play was a punishment. He laughs abt how he'd begrudgingly go out w/ his book, & not wanting to sit on the dirty ground where bugs might crawl on him, he'd just stand by a tree & read till they were told they could come back in! Jenny, you captured the mom's side perfectly in your clever poem!
Fun poem! Adding you to faves!
Oh gosh.....so true...and very cute! Good luck with them.
Hahahaha! I can't relate to this AT ALL.
Very cute!
love it!!
I love it! I know I'm going to have to do a lot of 'kicking outside' this summer:)
It's funny - these days if you tell the kids to go out and play, it's like a punishment. They'd rather be in front of a screen.
