Outdoor Movie Venues in Denver: Summer 2011

Looking for something different to do this summer in Denver? Why not check out an outdoor movie? Better yet, make it a regular habit. The Mile High City has a slew of venues to choose from in this department. Some are even free. Nothing like an evening picnic and a movie under the stars to keep the whole family entertained. Here's our favorite outdoor movie venues for Denver 2011.

Red Rocks Amphitheater isn't just for concerts. You can see movies there too. They call it Film on the Rocks. Arrive on time for comedy or music show openers. "Doors" open at 6 p.m. Buy your tickets in advance for ($10.00) or at the door ($12.00). Just another good reason to head toward Morrison this summer. The other reasons? Hmmm, let's see.... Margaritas at the Morrison Inn? Dinosaur Ridge? Random road trip adventures? Choose your day adventure and see the film afterward.

Unwind from the weekend at Monday Movie Madness. Head to Infinity Park in Glendale for free movies on the giant screen. They call it the jumbo-tron. This one is on my must do summer list. You might have driven in the area on a Monday and seen this screen. I did. It's indeed jumbo. I've been dying to check it out. Movies are held at 8 p.m. on Mondays this summer. Arrive with your picnic to get the best seat in the house. They start letting people in at 7 p.m.

Head to Skyline Park for free Mile High Movies this summer. Skyline Park is located in downtown Denver on the 16^th Street Mall at the intersection of Arapahoe Street. The schedule's not up yet, but keep checking. Kids and adults alike will love cooling off in the small sidewalk fountains on the mall or listening to street music while waiting for the movie. Don't forget, Skyline Park has free summer concerts too.

Denver outdoor summer Movies under the Stars are now showing at a park near you. There are a multitude of Denver area parks offering free movies and concerts throughout the summer. They're too numerous to list here. Washington Park is one. Check with your local park to see if they offer free summer movies. It's a great way to relax after a day of fun and sun with the kids. Bring a blanket. They may even drift off to dreamland.

How about the original outdoor movie? Head to the only drive in movie venue in the Denver area for some old fashioned movie fun. It's the 88 Drive In Theater in Commerce City. (Remember, you must have a working car radio to hear the movie) You can see two current movies for just $8.00. Kids under twelve receive free admission. Talk about family friendly entertainment. I love that this venue opens early (April 29) and is open every night all summer long. Why did drive in movies go out of style anyway?
