Outdoor Weddings Versus Indoor Weddings

Marilyn Roberts
One of the first things you need to do when planning your wedding is to decide if you want an indoor or outdoor wedding. Each has its advantages and it can be hard to choose which one to have.

An outdoor wedding can give you many beautiful and even exotic locations. For a romantic setting, how about getting married on the beach with a beautiful sunset in the background? You could even have a tropical wedding on an island with palm trees swaying and surrounded by glistening water on all sides.

A lot of people prefer to have a backyard wedding and reception. A backyard can be dressed up beautifully and make an enchanting backdrop to your ceremony. If you are having the wedding in the summer though you should probably make the clothing a little less formal. Hot temperatures are not nice to taffeta and satin. Allow your guests to dress more informally also. Jackets can get very hot under a summer sun. Having some bottled water on ice and plenty of cold drinks available will be greatly appreciated by your guests.

If you are planning a winter wedding it would probably be wiser to have it indoors. According to the area in which the wedding is being held, it is just too hard to predict what the temperatures will be on your special day. Shivering, freezing guests and a blue-toned bride does not make a pretty picture.

One disadvantage of an outdoor wedding is, of course, the weather. That is not something you can change at will and you have to be prepared for rain or other inclement weather. If there is no public building on the property in case of rain, you can arrange to have tents set up to house your guests and the ceremony. If the weather stays good you can have your ceremony outside and the tents set up for the reception.

An indoor wedding can be just as beautiful and romantic as an outdoor one. It can be anywhere from a small chapel to a grand cathedral. Your indoor wedding can be elaborately decorated or intimately simple. You won't have to worry about the weather and in some cases the ceremony itself could be outside with the reception inside.

Finding your perfect wedding location is very important and can be fun and exciting, but be sure and study the practicalities of the location you choose.

Either indoors or outdoors, you will be surrounded by your friends and family who will witness the most important day of your life and that is the background that is most important of all.
