Outside Services for Special Needs Students

Christina Armani
The outside services that schools can use depends on the special needs of the students. For students who have brain injuries which may result in them being physical and aggressive, schools can bring in a counselor or psychologist to work one on one with these students. Many schools use learning centers like Sylvan to help students with academic needs and a bus comes to the school to take the students to the center. For students with physical disabilities, schools can use the services of a physical therapist to work with these students during gym time and/or after school. For students who are deaf, teachers can use the services of an interpreter or a personal assistant to type of lectures for the student. The school can use the services of Kinkos or a copying place to enlarge things for students with poor vision. If students need further services than a speech therapist at school can provide or has time to provide, or if students need help with a hearing problem schools can enlist the services of a speech and hearing clinic. These students need to be tested frequently, and they need to be tested for a disability in the beginning, so all schools are going to need the help and services of a testing center. Since these services can get very expensive, schools can request financial assistance from any business or organization that's willing to help out.
