Over 50 Last Minute July 4th Independence Day Party Ideas

Celebrating Another Fourth of July!

Lori Lane

Time for at least 50 last minute July 4th patriotic ideas! In the past the Fourth of July has always been favored by American citizens as this year marks the 235th birthday of U.S. independence from the King of England's control. Not to mention his taxes.

The story has been shared multiple ways by text, documentary, and even news bits. But all in all, here is another take. This version involves the first party (Indians), second party (colonists), and a party crasher (King of England). The first party was over when the second party began digging the new land (land of the free) as promised by the third party (King of England). The third party demanded that the second party shovel up some of their own offerings in the process, otherwise known as taxes. The second party was running out of supplies but not dignity.

Well, the third party attempted to crash the second party in retaliation. However, the second party was off the hook and getting down! With a little help from some friends (some Indians, the French) the second party ran the party crashers off of their land. Since, America has been on her way to being the high grade melting pot she is today. Now? Any number of parties are welcome in the land of the free. America is no longer a "bring your own" party. The U.S. government bouncer usually lets most anyone in! And on the Fourth of July, otherwise known in America as Independence Day, U.S. citizens celebrate with a national party.

Happy Independence Day! Now, for over 50 last minute July 4th patriotic ideas. A brief description is added with each idea. Patriotic games and activities should include red, white, and blue.

Have these items handy. Red, white, and blue beach ball (Dollar stores) with smaller red, white, or blue bouncing balls. You offer option to patriotic playtime. White balls with July 4th sayings or patriotic drawings by children (with safe red and blue markers) screams festive on Independence Day. Other items they can draw on includes red, white, or blue balloons (with soft child safe markers / age appropriate - balloons can be dangerous to the little ones), washable sidewalk chalk for sidewalks, white paper table "cloth", or a drawing pad sitting out with red and blue markers on the side.

Place a large white sheet (large) in view for guests to write whatever they want to with a big red or blue marker. You can picture it. After a couple of Samuel Adams the guest book (poster) has all kinds of messages on it. A true keeper of patriotic memories.

Red, white, and blue napkins, plates, cups, forks, knives, spoons can be found at party supply stores. Or my other great money saving location for the little things - most any Dollar store. You may even run across a red, white, or blue punch bowl, decorative dish or platter.

Red cherries, blueberries on white icing can turn a cake patriotic. Sure, you could go with the mini U.S. flags on toothpicks, a large U.S.A. wax candle, a topper with Mount Rushmore, or "Happy Fourth" written in gel or frosting. Or you could go with frosting a white cake with horizontal red lines across the sides and stars in view. Simply take a toothpick to lightly draw a star(s) on the face (top) of the white cake to leave untouched as the blue frosting covers the rest of the top resulting in the U.S. (or Texas with one star) flag cake.

Red, white, and blue drinks are good too. Red cranberry, cherry, fruit drinks, or the red bottle of Mountain Dew will do. White coconut drinks or even the white bottle of Mountain Dew will do. The first thought that comes to mind is white milk. But don't try this on a hot July 4th day! Blue drinks can include Hawaiian drinks, blueberry drinks, blue fruit drinks, and yes mind reader, the blue bottle of Mountain Dew. Mountain Dew, who knew they would be so patriotic?

Red, white, and blue streamers and red, white, or blue Hawaiian type lays can go together like fireworks on Independence Day.

Flag towels, stars and stripes on bathing suits or trunks, a beach hat with a patriotic scarf added, or small red, white, and blue bows on flip flops are great July 4th ideas. Playing baseball in the water can be done with a cushioned baseball bat and squish ball (found in the pool isle with water toys at some department stores). Red, white, and blue floats should be found (where available) down the same isle or close to.

White everything at a party event with blue balloons and red table items is not so bad. But a mixture of red, white, and blue (especially on you) is a potential hit! Wear those American colors! Businessmen, don't forget those flag ties.

Mailboxes look nice dressed up for the Fourth. Place large red, white, and blue ribbons on your mailbox in bow formation. A patriotic door mat is also worth considering. For wall lamps next to the front door place small red, white, and blue ribbons on them as well.

Patriotic music is out there folks, especially at department stores. Pick up a patriotic CD for background music. Simply pick out the CD that appeals to you and would your guests. Patriotic movies include The Patriot. One of my all time favorites. Enough to not suggest any other flick. The Patriot. Five-star entertainment.

Watching fireworks can be fun if you plan the location needs appropriately. Instead of carrying chairs everywhere carry a bag filled with a blanket. And it wouldn't hurt to use a white blanket that can be bleached post event. Make sure the blanket is big enough and soft enough but not new enough. It should be an older blanket. One that wouldn't leave you crying over an accidental rip.

Instead of buying expensive drinks at a Fourth of July event (where can) bring your own. It doesn't take that many drinks to keep you hydrated during fireworks. Always good to remember when preparing. At most you'll need one or two drinks per person for a duration of three hours (depending upon the bladder).

Red, white, and blue bows on a front grill of a vehicle is not too bad. But never put a bow on the back grill - where you cook your July 4th burgers. Another great meal to add on the Fourth of July is hot dogs. And let's not forget the traditional July 4th hot dog eating contests. Why not have one of your own?

There you go. Tucked within are over 50 July 4th ideas for that last minute preparer in you. No matter what you do on the Fourth of July enjoy the freedoms to do so. Happy Fourth of July!
