Over the Counter Treatments for Hyperhidrosis
Would You Believe that it Could Be as Easy as Using a Specialized Deodorant?
A few months ago, I tried one of these new deodorants and was pleased with the result but not with the price. Secret Clinical Strength typically runs about $10 where another deodorant that has been on the market for many years is approximately $4. After trying the Secret Clinical Strength deodorant, I eventually switched back to the Certain-Dri brand due to the more expensive Secret product not being any more effective than the cheaper Certain-Dri.
On a recent trip to the drug store, I noticed that their are now many different brands of deodorant that are geared towards an over the counter treatment for Hyperhidrosis. It made me wonder if this condition is becoming more common or if the manufacturers are seeking to enter this niche profit market.
While an over the counter deodorant won't be effective for everyone that suffers from Hyperhidrosis, it has been very effective for me. One of my favorite things about using this specialized deodorant is that it is typically applied at night, thus eliminating those pesky white marks on your clothing in the morning.
If an over the counter treatment for hyperhidrosis is not effective in treating the disorder in your particular case there are other treatments available. Botox injections have been highly successful in the treatment of this disease. The Botox works to disable the sweat glands thus reducing the amount of perspiration. An oral drug by the name of Ditropan has also proven to be successful in the treatment of Hyperhidrosis but has reported side effects such as a dry mouth and drowsiness. The time released version of Ditropan is marketed as Ditropan XL and has not been as successful in the treatment of Hyperhidrosis in clinical trials.
It is always a good idea to check with your physician before using an over the counter treatment for Hyperhidrosis or any other disease. The active ingredient in these specialized deodorants is Aluminum Chloride and it can be irritating to some. It is normal to have a slight stinging sensation when you first start to use these products but if a breakout occurs from use, you should consult your physician immediately.
