SWITCH THINGS UP: The first thing that you may want to do, in reference to any of these reasons for the post holiday blues is to change the routines in your life a little. For example, if you always have the same routine at work every day, why not try a new routine. This year when you come back from the "holiday break", flip flop your routine. Change your daily agenda, so that the things you would normally do in the morning, you will do in the afternoon and vise versa. Turn on some music at work as well, change your eating and break routines also, just to switch things up a bit and help your mood to be better.
START A NEW ACTIVITY: Start a new activity that you can do once or twice a month to get together with some friends. Even if you simply start a small scrapbooking club or hold a game night at your home, make it fun and it will be something to look forward to after the holidays are over and all year long. You could also start a new exercise routine in your free time 3 to 4 days a week, studies have shown that exercise naturally increases and boosts our moods.
KEEP IN TOUCH: Make it a habit to call friends and keep in touch with them. Send cards for not reason, except to say hello, the favor will be returned. Invite friends over once in a while, or make plans to go out for dinner or lunch once in a while. You friends will enjoy keeping in touch as much as you do. Since friends normally laugh when they talk or when they are together, the keeping in touch will be healthy for you and your friends throughout the new year.
PLAN A FUN DAY IN JANUARY: So that you will have something to look forward to once the holidays are over, make some plans for a fun day in January. The second or third weekend of January, plan a shopping trip or a stay away for the weekend. Since January is a slow month for businesses, you may be able to get a room to stay in with a deep discount or find excellent deals while shopping. Make it something that you will look forward to, even during Christmas.
HOLIDAY DEBT: To overcome the blues of holiday debt, you simply need to start attacking. Do not sit back and let interest rates eat you up. Start making the minimum payments and be sure to make them every month, then whenever you have a little extra money, apply it to your cards to pay them down quicker. The sooner you start paying down your payments, the better you will feel about it.
