Television addiction is on the rise in the United States with more and more adults and children suffering from the mental health complication, leading to secondary physical health ailments. For many addicts, the complications with watching excessive television programming are not even realized until such time as physical health conditions develop. If you are concerned that television addiction has become an issue for you or your children, here are some methods for resolving the mental health complication naturally.
To be an addiction, it is necessary that your body not only mentally feel attached to television but that you also feel some degree of physical abnormality when away from television for any extended period of time. When this type of addiction occurs with television viewing, it means that the pleasure pathways in your brain have become accustomed to watching television, deriving a "feel good" emotion from viewing, and when no longer stimulated your pleasure pathway can cause a perceived physical pain.
Obviously, the first step to natural alleviate a television addiction will involve removing the television from your home entirely. If this is not feasible, then start by cutting down on the cable or satellite television channels that you have accessible during the day and night. By removing channels and options for viewing, there will be an immediate response in the brain that this type of activity is no longer pleasurable - especially if a commonly watched channel is unavailable.
When watching television, if you find that you engage in another activity, such as eating, start doing that secondary activity in an area away from the television. Eating outside in your backyard, in the dining room, or even eating out, will help your body discontinue the association between food and the secondary action. Also, find another activity to do during the times that you would normally watch television. Such activities might include calling a friend on the phone, listening to music, reading, or even engaging in a physical activity outside.
Addictions, of any type, often require diligence in resolving and can not be resolved, typically, with home remedies or natural solutions. Because television addiction is directly related to the products in your home, you can often resolve the addiction with some simple lifestyle changes. If you find that you watch television excessively, use these natural steps to break the habit and you'll find your life is fuller and better.
