There are many emotional and physical symptoms associated with flight anxiety or the fear of flying. Some of these symptoms include anxiety, vulnerability, fear of enclosed places, loss of control, muscle tension, heart palpitations and chest pain, sweating, dizziness, dry mouth, impaired memory and inner ear problems.
To reduce flying anxiety naturally, try slowing down and only doing things one at a time. It is important to realize that you will be in a situation where you do not have control for the length of the flight. This can be extremely frustrating for some people. If you find yourself feeling anxious or claustrophobic, close your eyes and take a deep breath; count to 20 before opening your eyes. Read through the TSA and airline websites so that you can identify any unforeseen stresses beforehand. Learn what triggers your stress and figure out how to deal with these issues before boarding the plane.
Some herbal supplements can help reduce flight stress if taken before the flight. These herbs should be taken two to three weeks prior to flight, if possible. Bergamot can help raise self confidence and to soothe frustration, lavender can be used to reduce anxiety and patchouli is sometimes used to reduce depression, tension, fear and stress. Sandalwood can also reduce depression and rose can soothe fear and anxiety.
To help reduce flight anxiety in children, try using Kalm-Assure, which can be used once or long-term. Kalm-Assure is available in most health food stores.
Individuals who experience flight anxiety and participate in overall wellness may begin meditating before the flight to help control stress and anxiety during the flight. Daily meditation can help balance individuals.
