Overcoming Low Blood Sugar Symptoms with Meditation

Meditation Mind

Deborah Oakes, NPS
On the same day I wrote about in my previous article, A First-Hand Experience in Meditation, I had another experience with meditation. Within a few hours of overcoming a headache, I experienced low blood sugar symptoms. The effects of fasting were upon me. I had been fasting for several days and I suddenly felt extremely hungry, low in energy and light-headed. In the past, I would have eaten something immediately.

Meditation Mind

This time, I turned to meditation instead. I don't know what the meditation mind is or does although I have read some research about it synchronizing the mind. I continued the same meditation I mentioned in the previous article. I meditated for about an hour, but this time it was with low blood sugar symptoms. A short time into the meditation, the low blood sugar symptoms from the effects of fasting were gone. My energy was back, I was no longer hungry and I was no longer light-headed.

What a miracle to experience something as simple as meditation to cure a headache and low blood sugar in the same day. Many may say it's a mind over matter technique and maybe it is. But, whatever it is, the human mind is quite capable, with a focus on God, to achieve so much more than I previously thought.

Mind Over Matter

From reading about some of things yogi's achieve, it all seems to be mind over matter with the exception that all the yogi's propound about God. There must be something about spirit permeating matter which is not as known in Western society as it is in Hindu society. Just because something is not understood doesn't mean it doesn't exist and have effects. Nobel prize winner in medicine, 1913, Charles Robert Richert states, "Because a fact is rare is no reason that it does not exist. Metaphysics is not yet officially a science, recognized as such. But....it is going to be." Paramahansa, pg. 117

Low Blood Sugar Effects

I have now published two extreme examples of the meditation mind and how it overcame headache and low blood sugar effects. In the past, when experiencing low blood sugar, I would come close to fainting if I didn't eat. Through meditation, I was able to overcome these effects and continue with the fast. These experiences are enough for me to continue to meditate and especially when the body seems to need something to regain it's balance. All the times I've thought nothing really happened in meditation are no longer valid as far as I am concerned. Just because I don't know if something happened or not doesn't mean a thing. I believe something does happen and the effects will be seen in due time.
