Metabolic diseases include: ADD, allergies, Alzheimer's, cancer, chronic fatigue, dementia, depression, dermatitis, diabetes, eczema, endometriosis, fibromyalgia, heart disease, hyperactivity, hypertension, thyroid disorders, and stroke (just to name a few). These metabolic disease are widespread and devastating and are classified as "diseases of society" since they are preventable through proper nutrition and exercise.
If some element is in too high of quantity, it will become a toxin. If some element is in too low of quantity, it will become a deficiency. Some elements should not even be present at all(i.e. mercury, lead, arsenic). Even though water is necessary for life, too much can kill and so can too little. A proper balance - homeostasis - needs to be maintained. Many diseases that we currently are plagued with in our society are a deficiency of nutrients or an excessive exposure of a toxin.
The body is self-healing, but it cannot build something from nothing! When the body has the proper nutrients to build, repair, and heal, it does so with very little effort and without the intervention of a physician. Even the Father of Medicine, Hippocrates, understood this concept, "Let your food be your medicine, and let your medicine be your food." He understood the importance of vitamins, minerals, and nutrients that our whole foods could supply us and how they could promote health and healing. Yet, much of modern medicine (claiming Hippocrates to be "the father of medicine") puts more faith and trust into synthetic chemicals and extraction - pharmaceuticals, manufactured vitamins, and surgery - that are toxic and detrimental to the health of the human body.
Many metabolic diseases have been on the rise over the past few decades - especially cancer. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that global cancer rates will increase 50% by the year 2020! Cancer is just the definition of a cell that has begun to function abnormally. A cell would only begin to do this due to a toxicity or a deficiency. Thus, the story of Vitamin B17 (also known as Amygdalin) begins...
It is important to recognize that our nutrition has declined dramatically over the past few decades. Many modern foods that people consume are modified, processed, laced with sugar, coated with preservatives, and composed of materials that have never been "living". In other words, people are consuming foods that are dead and expecting life to come from them. The absence of these "living" nutrients provides an environment that sets the stage for metabolic disease, including cancer.
Amygdalin (vitamin B17) is a necessary nutrient just like thiamin (vitamin B1), riboflavin (vitamin B2), and cyancobalamin (vitamin B12). These nutrients, along with many other nutrients that do not yet have names (called phytonutrients) promote health and healing within the human body. When they are absent, the disease process begins. Amygdalin is found in numerous foods - many of which are no longer found in the diet: sprouts, wheat grass, apple seeds, raw almonds, raspberries, and more. Amygdalin is a natural cyanide that is deactivated in a "normal" cell; in a cancerous cell, that is just concerned with growing, it does not deactivate the cyanide and is killed from the inside! Amazing what nutrients can do... Wait, that is what Hippocrates was saying around 400 BC. How would our society be different if cancer no longer was a concern because people acquired this nutrient in their diet?
What makes this story more interesting is the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is consistently approving dangerous chemicals - pharmaceuticals - as excellent treatment measures for metabolic diseases and allowing manufacturers of processed foods to advertise that they can boost immunity. Yet, the FDA prohibits the labeling of nutrients as measures to prevent or treat disease as the nutrient becomes a drug. Seems like they are wanting to synthetically manufacture a similar nutrient that will be more toxic than useful, patent it, and then sell it for triple the price. If only they truly understood what Hippocrates was saying. Do you?
