I've always been on the adventurous side, so when a friend wanted to go horseback riding, I was eager to give it a try. Wouldn't you know it, I was given the biggest horse, and he was also the most cantankerous horse I had ever seen. Carefully mounting from the side, I swung into the saddle, and we were off. I tried to guide him with the reins, but either he got his wires crossed or I did, and he kept walking into bushes on the trail. After a few times of this, my horse decided that enough was enough, and took off running back to the stable, as I hung on for dear life. I found out very quickly that a horse can really pick up speed, and I was a nervous wreck by the time we got back to the stable. I couldn't get off that horse quick enough and I could have sworn he gave me a dirty look as he was led back to his stall.
Even though my foray into the world of horseback riding was shaky to say the least, if I had the opportunity, I would give it another try. Maybe choosing a smaller horse with a calmer disposition, conducting some research to see what makes a horse tick, and receiving some good advice from the staff would make all the difference.
Running your own business is a lot like riding a horse. When you first start out to create a good income, you're feeling your way along, and you're going to make some mistakes. You may lose some promising prospects while you're learning the ropes, but don't get so discouraged that you give up on your business. It may take awhile, but if you stay on your feet and keep moving forward, you will be successful.
I can't stress enough how important it is to have a mentor or coach. In my case, my mentor, Chris Farrell, makes FOUR FIGURES EVERYDAY, so I want to know the exact steps he used to create a good income. Some people make the mistake of thinking that successful people are busy, and don't want to be bothered, but that is not usually the case. Most successful people can remember when they started out, and are more than happy to answer questions.
Have fun getting your business off the ground, and instead of stressing over your mistakes, make a note of what you did wrong, and what you did to correct it. Learning from your mistakes gives you the knowledge to help someone else who may be struggling with the same problem.
