Overcoming Paralyzing Fear!

Naomi Cassata
Fear has a way of paralyzing us. It stops us in our tracks and puts all our focus on our problem. When we do this, fear has a stronger grip around our lives. Fear gives more and more power to the devil by magnifying the issue. Fear is like a magnifying glass that focuses in on our problem making it much larger and scarier than it really is.

Fear is not from God. Fear is the devil's most powerful weapon against God's children because instead of focusing on God's provision, we focus on our lack; Instead of believing God's word on healing, we focus on the negative symptoms we are experiencing. We begin to doubt God and His word. Remember the devil is a liar. He will whisper lies to us, but reject them. You will know they are lies because they build on your fear and God will never put fear on His children. Jesus said he has given us peace. When we abandon fear, its grip over us loosens.

You see, fear is the opposite of faith. Satan always counterfeits the things of God. Fear and faith cannot co-exist. Whichever we turn towards, will have the most influence in our lives. Smother out the fear in your life by having faith in God. Faith is to believe what the Bible says. It is focusing on the good things Jesus has done for us. Jesus did a lot of wonderful things when he walked on the earth. He healed, delivered and set free. He came to destroy the works of the devil (1 John 3:8) We must believe and not doubt if we want to receive from God. Our lives should be lived by faith daily. Jesus said those that live by faith will do great things for the Kingdom of God. The apostle Paul is a wonderful example of faith. While Paul was shipwrecked on an island he was bitten by a snake. The natives expected him to swell up and die. When Paul showed no signs of death, the natives were shocked. You see, Paul lived a life of faith. He did not fear because he had faith to know that if he believed in God's protection, the poison from the snake could not kill him.

Over and over in the Bible we are told "Fear not" "Do not be Afraid" "Let not your heart be troubled" "Be anxious for nothing." All these things have a way of paralyzing us so that we don't fulfill our purpose in life. If we are told to not fear then it is our choice. I used to think that fear was just there and I could do nothing about it, but Jesus tells us to not fear. We must make the choice to not fear when we feel fearful about something.

Let this be your meditation. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. (John 14:27)
