To Make this Beadboard Frame You Will Need:
Beadboard Sheeting
Plywood
Picture Hanging Wire
Plexiglas
Screws
Jigsaw
Drill
To get started you need to cut out a sheet of the beadboard wall paneling to about 3 feet wide and 1.5 feet tall. You of course can make this any size, but by using one large piece for this vintage wall frame, you can put a bunch of picture frame holes in it and get a wall mural effect.
Now, cut out a piece of paper to 4X6 inches. This will be your guide for making the small picture openings on the shabby chic beadboard frame. You and do 3 rows of 3, a row of 5, or any combination you want. Trace the rectangles onto the board.
Drill a hole in the middle of each rectangles. Slip your jigsaw down in the hole and use this to cut each one out. You will also want to sand the edges.
Now, sheets of faux beadboard or flimsy and easy to cut, but they need a frame to hand them on the wall. I like to build a simple frame from leftover 2X4's. You can simply nail them onto the board from the front.
Paint out the oversize vintage inspired frame. I recommend using a milk paint, which looks old and make everything painted in it super retro. It comes in tons of colors and is perfect for this DIY shabby chic frame.
You can also us leftover house paint. Once it dries try rubbing it with a wood wax to age it out. You can also apply the pain thickly and in a number of coats to make the beadboard look like really old bead board from a salvage yard or old kitchen.
Now, install two eye hooks or picture hanging hooks on the back left and right side of the 2X4 frame. You can tie a picture hanging wire between them and hag on the wall!
Tip: To install you photos in each hole cut out sheets of acetate to 5X7 inches. Glue them behind each hole. You can tape picture in from behind so they show up in the front. You an also mount the picture on cardboard and tape into place from behind on the oversize retro beadboard frame.
