There are many unique 'skills" that your character can possess and train. Some of them include attack, defense, strength, prayer, herblore, fishing, cooking, etc. The model player of Runescape is a person whose character is known as "Zezima" he/she has been the number one player in Runescape for quite a while. It sometimes seems to me that Zezima is actually an account where a few people can access and train it instead of one person doing all the work.
Sustaining a game of this magnitude requires funds and though the traffic on the website is great it isn't enough to cover the cost of maintaining the game and adding new features. Therefore, Runescape has a members feature in which players can pay a monthly fee of USD $5 to access more features of the game. Though paying a monthly fee for a game seems too much for some people, there are a great many others who have signed up for membership. Having a membership means being able to experience a wider variety of items, skills, quests, and mini games in Runescape which are so addicting that many people seem to think $5 is a great price to pay for such entertainment.
While members have a great advantage in the game, it will not affect the enjoyment of non-members. Member's objects that can only be used by members will be limited to the member's world or server. Upon logging into the game you'll have to select the world into which you want to login, there are two types of worlds, a member's and a non-member's world. Though there are above 30 of both member and non-member worlds, at times certain worlds will be full (2000 users) and no one can login until there's space. But, there's no need to worry although certain worlds may be full there are always other worlds to play in.
Runescape has been one of the few games that do not require you to choose a character class limiting your attacks and skills to that specific class. Players can use melee, magic, and ranged attacks and can switch between them simply by changing weapons. Though armor does not determine what kind of attacks you can use, different types of armor supports different attacks. For example, a plate body (heavy metal armor worn on torso) provided excellent defense against melee and ranged attack but reduces resistance to magic spells and your magic attacking ability while dragon hide armor (armor made of dragon hide worn on torso, legs and wrists) enhances your ranged attacks and magical resistance but lowers your magic attacks.
Many people who either have no skill of their own or are too lazy to venture through the game themselves try and scam people out of their belongings in Runescape by means or trickery and deception. So the need for moderators has been placed. There are two types of moderators in the game Jagex and Player. Jagex moderators are actual employees and are rare to see while player moderators are trusted ordinary players and are much more common.
