Owen Imachukwu Speaks with Associated Content from YAHOO!

I met Owen Therese Imachukwu more than 6 years ago when we served together in the Children's Ministry at Victory World Church in Norcross, Georgia.

Owen always had a very easy going way about herself and she has a smile that can light up the night. I understand that Owen's background is in law, but in February of this year I saw a very different side of Owen, a more artistic side that I never knew that Owen possessed. A friend of ours renewed her wedding vows in February, 2010 and asked Owen to take care of the decorations for the event.

I was actually at the rehearsal dinner and I saw the transformation right before my eyes and it was amazing! Owen turned an ordinary meeting room in a church building into a brides dream wedding environment. There were touches of fresh flowers and lavender everywhere and the tables were dressed in beautiful white and purple linens. The beauty of it all made me long to be a bride again.

Today I would like for you to meet the woman behind the design.

YAHOO: Good afternoon Owen. How are you?

OTI: I am great! Thanks for asking.

YAHOO: Owen, I'd like for you to give a little background on where you are from originally and how you found yourself in Georgia.

OTI: I am originally from Nigeria, West Africa where I trained as an attorney, practiced for a couple of years and relocated with my family to Georgia in 1999.

YAHOO: I know that your background is in Law, but where did the desire come from to explore your artistic side?

OTI: It is a talent that I have always known was there but did not explore the full potential until my early twenties. I am an organization freak and find organizing second nature. I often helped friends and family with organizing and planning events and would jump into decorating, serving, you name it just to make the event a success. As I delved into more fascinating designs, my skills improved. I found out that the more I volunteered my services, the more events I planned but realized most of all that I really enjoyed decorating.

The joy of transforming a bare room to a place of elegance and glamour intrigues me. As friends and family appreciated what I did for their weddings, birthday parties and more, they encouraged me to set up a business. In 2005, I set up a home based decorating, event planning and home organization business.

YAHOO: What is the name of your Event Planning Company?

OTI: Absolutely Awesome (Decorators & Organizers)

YAHOO: What inspired that name Owen?

OTI: As a Christian, you have to rely on the Lord to guide and direct you in your endeavors. So when I made the decision to turn my talent to a business, I prayed about the name and He gave me the name "Absolutely Awesome".

YAHOO: Can you tell our YAHOO readers what kind of services you offer?

OTI: Absolutely Awesome offers event decorating, coordinating and facilitating services for weddings, birthday parties, showers, reunions, graduation, corporate events; and home office organization for executives, handling one time and long term virtual office projects.

YAHOO: What words of wisdom would you give to people that are thinking of starting their own business?

OTI: Everyone has a passion but what you do with it is what's most important. Remember the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-28? Use your talents for it will bless others. When you identify your passion and decide to turn it into a business, write up a simple business plan, get your business registered, and market your business. Be sure to talk to people about your business, volunteer your services if you can afford to do so. That way, people will know and appreciate what you have to offer, pray and keep doing what you do best.
