Although Oxygen Media has not made an official announcement that "The Glee Project" has been picked up for a second season, the hugely popular reality show has announced open casting call cities and begins accepting online video auditions. The reason Oxygen has not officially stated that "The Glee Project" has the green light for season two, is because the series "Glee" has not officially been picked up for a season 4. It is widely accepted that "Glee" will be given a pick up for a fourth season.
"Glee" airs on Fox Network, and "The Glee Project" was created to enhance Oxygen's 2010 deal for the off-network rights to "Glee". "The Glee Project" debuted on Oxygen June 12, 2011 to mediocre ratings, but by the end of its first season, the show developed into a huge critically acclaimed and rating hit for the NBC Universal owned cable network.
"The Glee Project" is executive produced by Primetime Emmy Award winning Ryan Murphy of Ryan Murphy Productions. Murphy won the Emmy for "Glee", for which he was also nominated for three Writers Guild of America WGA Awards, two Directors Guild of America DGA Awards, and two additional Primetime Emmy Award nomination. Michael Davies, who is President of Embassy Row also serves as executive producer.
