The Pratt Area Community Council (PACC) recently received funding to renovate the historic City of Brooklyn Fire Headquarters in Downtown Brooklyn. Located at 365 Jay Street, the firehouse currently serves as an affordable housing building.

NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development gained control of the firehouse from the Black United Fund back in 2005 according to the New York Times. Since then, the Romanesque Revival style firehouse was converted into 18 subsidized apartments.

PACC plans on keeping the current housing units and hopes to have a non-profit organization move into the storefront. According to Brownstoner, renovations to this 1892 Frank Freeman masterpiece are expected to take place next spring. This will be a great addition to the growth of Downtown Brooklyn.
