PACIFIC

Morton Templeton
Sapphire, azure, cobalt, indigo
All the colors of blue
The pearls of the PACIFIC can be found waiting there for you
Emerald, jade, olive,
all the colors of green
For you a gift not yet seen
Hurricane, typhoons, rain squalls
The PACIFIC will throw them all
At you
at me
For she is a mighty force upon this EARTH
But she is bending on her knees
for there is a floating menace in the doldrums of the sea,
there just beneath the surface
A soup of toxic mix-----
No one person put it there; we all have played our part
Twice the size Texas
A continent unto its self, a hideous sight to behold
This peril is so far reaching, so devastating,
Ravaging to our SOULS.
This toxic waste is PLASTIC, such a simple common thing
To think this great invention could strike a mighty blow
It only keeps on growing, getting bigger by the day
This floating toxic soup of PLASTIC that we have all just thrown away
It is strangling our emerald OCEANS; turning our cobalt SEAS to deserts.
Leaving a wasteland for our children's children
WE MUST MAKE A STAND

Nice poem. I just spent a week on the Washington coast. Very pleasant.

I also love the oceans, and hope we take better care of them now and in the future. Hopefully, we will learn to stop the loss of the coral reefs...their importance is probably similar to that of the rainforests on land. You voice an important message here.

I can imagine this poem being transformed into song lyrics, probably setting the tone for an acoustic piece. Nice work.

Love the wild, blue Pacific. And, of course, your beautiful article which honors her!

aquamarine is one of my favorite colors. The ocean is..perfect, minus that we're killing it.

RE: No, the cat and the pitbull were not playing. That pic was sent to me from the lady who gave me the cat. He was only about a month old in the pic and stalked and attacked her pitbull so she couldn't keep him.

The plastic bags are going to be banned in CA. Yea! (Just visited San Franscico.) Wish this would happen across the globe! I am so sick and tired of the waste! Really trying to do my part. Loved your poem for taking a stand for the environment regarding this issue.

Thanks for writing this very needed poem. Cashiers that put one item purchases in a bag are probably causing more bag waste per person than anyone else, resulting in the deaths of many birds and fish and other wild life.
