Packers to Release Frost

Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy announced the Packers will release punter Derrick Frost some time today.

Frost was signed prior to the Packers season opener against the Minnesota Vikings. The move was somewhat surprising given the fact punter Jon Ryan had played all pre-season without competition and there were no indications his job was in jeopardy.

When signing Frost, the Packers expected the move to add more consistency to the punter position. Instead, he has struggled at times and the Packers 38.2 net average ranks near the bottom of the league. During the Packers game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, loud boos could be heard from hometown fans whenever he was on the field.

According to McCarthy, a new punter has not been signed yet. Back up quarterback Matt Flynn will take over Frost's holding duties on field goals and extra points.
