Pacquiao Vs. Mayweather "Winner Takes All" Challenge Issued by Freddie Roach

Will the Mayweathers Take the Bait or Respond with More Alibis?

Joey Liam
KTLA's newscaster Cher Calvin recently caught up with Manny Pacquiao, the reigning pound-for-pound king of boxing, at the Wild Card Gym in Hollywood, to ask him about his preparations for his upcoming welterweight clash with Joshua Clottey, the battle-tested warrior from Ghana, Africa who is now fighting from New York. She also managed to persuade Pacquiao to directly answer the unfounded allegations of the Mayweathers concerning his supposed usage of steroids to bulk up and destroy his bigger and taller opponents at will in his previous fights.

Expectedly, Pacquiao trains like a maniac for this championship fight to prove to the whole world once again that he is the main man in boxing and not the feeble-minded clowns, who would not stop their mendacious accusations against Pacquiao, and yet, had not provide a single proof of evidence to support their imprecations of the People's Champion. Pacquiao will be defending his WBO welterweight title on March 13 against Joshua Clottey at the spectacular Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas. This date was originally set aside by the giant network HBO to feature an unprecedented bout between the current pound-for-pound king of boxing (Pacquiao) and the former pound-for-pound lord (Floyd Mayweather, Jr.), but negotiations fell apart when the latter's camp demanded to subject Pacquiao to an Olympic-style of drug testing, which basically includes a random blood sampling from both fighters even on the day of the fight.

Pacquiao made it clear that he is "not against blood testing, just not the day of the fight" on his previous interview with Jason Kim of the Countryman's Fist, and reiterated his stand when KTLA's Calvin asked him again if he is taking PEDs. Pacquiao clarified that he "only trains hard for his fights and that his accusers do not know what they are talking about." Roach, who is Pacquiao's multi-awarded coach, supported his pupil's position by offering an open challenge to Mayweather: "We'll fight him for free. Winner takes all!" Perhaps this bold challenge is now ringing through the ears of the Mayweathers. Let's just wait and see if they will take the bait and accept the challenge or if they will respond with alibis, as we're accustomed to hearing.

@ Robert, Pacquiao never tested positive on roids at any point in his career. Who gave the right to the Mayweather camp to dictate the testing process in the first place? Why are they so afraid of Pacman? Did you think about these points? Peace.

  • roberto2/21/2010

yeah, manny is just worried about being tested possitive on roid test, thats all. it's a shame. peace

@ Hatch, exactly! That's the whole point of this article which the Floydhuggers couldn't simply grasp.

  • Hatch2/18/2010

Winner takes all and loser gets ZIP, NADA, ZERO. That should be the fight. Floyd is boasting that Pacquiao is so easy to beat, then let him fight with winner takes all.

But no. Mayweather will never fight Pacquiao in his lifetime because he knows this is the only fighter who can beat him 100%. He will not win. SO TO GUARANTEE THAT HE WILL NEVER FIGHT PACQUIAO, HE NOW ANNOUNCES THAT HE WILL NOT TAKE A 50-50 PURSE SPLIT BECAUSE HE KNOWS PACQUIAO WILL NEVER ACCEPT IT, JUST LIKE THE BLOOD TEST. Now, Mayweather can continue fighting and keep his "0" until age 50.

@ Andrew, if this fight would be this easy for Mayweather, why did he come up with all kinds of demand to Team Pacman? I sense that he is scared of the King in that aspect. What's your rebuttal?

  • Andrew2/18/2010

That is so ridiculous... Pacquiao/Roach wouldn't fight him for $40 million... how the hell does he think anyone would believe they would fight him for free. Pacquiao can't beat Mayweather anyway. Lame.

@ Jay Dav, I never posted anywhere in my article that Pacquiao stated "I did not use any PED or HGH." Are you sure you're reading the right article? :)
