According to officials and several international news reports, over 100,000 people perished in what has been recorded as the country's most severe quake in over 200 years.
During his Wednesday broadcast of "The 700 Club," Robertson said, "Something happened a long time ago in Haiti and people might not want to talk about it. They were under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon III, or whatever."
Robertson continued by claiming that, "They [the Haitians] got together and swore a pact to the devil. They said, 'We will serve you if you'll get us free from the French.' True story. And so the devil said, 'Okay it's a deal.'

Post a CommentI have a comment regarding God and the statement made that he does not cause bad things to happen. No he definitely does not cause things to happen or punish us. He does weep when we weep, but he will allow things to happen in our lives to draw us back to him when we stray.
Wow...that's quite interesting and very, very sad.
Instead of trying to assess blame, Mr. Robertson should be using his broadcast to coordinate efforts of relief. To blame the earthquake on the people themselves is like saying, they are responsible for putting the fault line under Haiti. This is not the time to judge them or condemn them...but to reach out a helping hand. If Jesus were her, he would not be trying to blame them...but extend offers of help. Since He is not physcially on the earth, WE can be his hands and feet (& mouth). Our compassion and prayers are needed for the Haitians...not our judgement or blaming them for a natural disaster.
I have mixed feelings about Pat Robertson's comment. #1 He is getting very old, and I've noticed he's not as sharp as he used to be. #2 He has done a tremendous amount of good through CBN, Operation Blessing, and his law center ACLJ(they're the only ones going up against the taking away of our religious rights. #3 It may well be true that in 1749 Haiti made a deal with Satan. But the Bible says the sins of the fathers are passed down to the 3rd and 4th generations, not 250 years! At any rate, I do not think it was a wise thing to do for Pat to talk about 1749 on the day of the earthquake.
