Pageant Clothing Tips

The months of preparation for a pageant are full of shopping trips, fittings and practicing walking in a competition shoes. There are some tricks of the trade that can make any contestant's competition clothing require less maintenance, less preparation during the competition, limit worrying about possible wardrobe malfunctions and help maintain a competitor's confidence through out all stages of competition.

1) Accents on Gown Competition Shoes

Rhinestones, buckles and glitter on gown competition shoes are infamous for grabbing on to the hem of a competition gown at the exact moment that a competitor passes in front of the judges. There are three easy solutions to prevent accents on competitions shoes to get attached to the hem of a dress. These solutions are clear tape, clear finger nail polish or by covering the accents with super glue.

2) Limiting the Clothing Tape

Competition wear sometimes requires tape so that it stays in its proper place while a competitor is on stage. If a dress or shirt has a deep v neckline or other type of plunging neckline, the most common solution to prevent certain assets from being exposed is pageant tape placed along the edges of the neckline, but there is a solution that requires less preparation during a dress change. Simply have a seamstress run clear fishing line up the neckline to keep the dress in place.

3) Bag and Tag

Take the pageant week schedule sit down with some good friends who have a good sense of style and strong opinions. Plan outfits for each appearance, event and rehearsals. Put the jewelry for each outfit in a zipping sandwich bag, press and hang all of the items of items together and safety pin the sandwich bag to the clothes. Also write out on a note card what event the outfit is for, the accessories that go with the outfit and any other details related to hair and makeup. This will help make the stress of the competition less.

4) Chicken Cutlets, Falsies and Sticky Bras

There are some rules that apply when using any of the wonderful products to help boost or enhance a contestant's assets. First and most important is that they are all designed to stick to skin not to each other so take precautions to be sure that everything stays in its proper place. Also, to avoid unnecessary chance with chicken cutlets, consider removing them after the competition portion has been completed, prior to the crowning. Also keep in mind that heat, sweat and lights will limit the stickiness of enhancements.
