A Powers
A blank canvas.
And here now, a sweep of gray-brown
that will be a happy tree, budding purple.
Between the buds, a glimpse of his brother,
tiny twigs stuffed all over with huge white blossoms.
A bee kisses one.
Just beyond that, a brick wall, multicolored rust and tan,
that goes on forever in three directions
and ends sharply in the last.
Along this edge, a sidewalk snakes around,
past the phoenix trees, out of the canvas.
Along the sidewalk, shaggy grass broken by landscaped saplings
and rings of wood chips crying soccer team.
Near one of these, a child, in glasses,
a book smashed into her face.
In her magnified eyes,
a woman.
