Paint of Me a Picture Dark

Jeff Mason
i am awash with slate today, so...

paint the color that i feel;

feel... the color that i am;

just paint a sullen picture of me...

hopeless... down and out

filled with sorrow...

sad today;

and... then again, still sad tomorrow;

desperate -- searching for true solace;

racked with pain; fraught with doubt...

feel the tendrils of your brush

obscure the canvas of my soul...

with liquid strokes of color grey

sealing true this blackened hole;

shades of onyx... midnight dark

flowing through my fibers here...

dip your tip again

and paint...

the very colors that you fear...

paint of me a picture bland

for who's to say what's wrong or right?

paint me neutral as the sand

draw me deep... within the night

paint me as the dullest blades

blurred 'mid catacombs of dust...

in unsubtle somber shades

paint me any way you must...

paint of me a storm; a cloud

but only as the sunset fades

paint me soft... no, never loud...

no banners bright; no accolades

paint my heart on saddest breeze

colored darkest shades of blue...

paint me any way you please

but only if...

you paint my color true .
