Pair - O - Dimes

(On Common Cents and Current Events)

Linda Ann Nickerson
A penny might procure a thought,
If intellect could yet be bought.
And yet, to transform hearts and minds,
We need to change our paradigms.

In many quarters, most intense,
Majority may toss two cents -
Opinions subject to purloin,
Determined by a toss of coin.

Awareness now of simpler times,
When candy bars and tolls cost dimes,
Demands revisitation dear,
For that's a long way back from here.

Our currency has lost its gold.
Majorities are bought and sold.
We're turned the corner, past attack.
I think I want my nickel back.

If you gave me a penny for each of my thoughts, I think I'd be rich lol, nice poem :)

Oh this one's a keeper (as are most all of your poetry). However your "...Dimes" are most special to me because this poem brings memories of my dad . . . he collected dimes in his grandmother's 1880's dime bank throughout his life . . . it was the only thing passed to him of her possessions . . . When he died, my mother insisted I become the 'keeper' of great-grandmother's dime bank . . . So I especially thank you for this poem . . . It has a most deep and precious meaning for me.

Great poem. Heck, I can remember getting a quarter for an allowance, and could buy both a comic book and candy bar, with a few pennies left over for bubble gum!
