Long vests
This year some ladies left their dupattas (scarves) at home and wore long tailored vests instead. These go great with Capri pants and knee length shirts. Vests can be floral, embroidered or really fancy with ornate bead and stonework. They go best with simple and solid colors on the shirt and trousers.
Capri Pants
The hottest new fashion for weddings and casual wear is long shirts, below the knee, worn with Capri pants. Capri pants should come about 5 to 6 inches above your ankle, and shirts should come about 2 to 4 inches below the knee. You don't want them to be so long that they cover most of the Capri pants. Solid colored pants with pockets are best and look very modern. Wear with stiletto heels and a matching dupatta.
Churriya Pajama Pants
Although very popular in neighboring India, the churriya pajama (gathered Capri pants or ankle length trousers) hadn't quite caught on in Pakistan until now. Up to this year, I'd never seen them outside of weddings, but now they are taking to the streets as well. This style looks best on slim and petite women. Wear with long shirts and matching dupattas. Choose patterned pajama pants and a solid top and add a decorative tie at the bottom of the pant leg for some extra flair.
Frocks with Leggings
A very popular style in the Defence and Gulberg area is "frock" shirts. These are basically like dresses and don't have slits on the side like the traditional kameez shirt. Knee length "frockies" could easily be worn over jeans or even as a dress in the U.K. or America. Pair a frock with Capri pants or skintight leggings for an ultra-modern look. A great wedding frock will have an empire waist studded in beads or stones. Most ladies at weddings are wearing frocks quite long, about six inches above the ankle. The leggings may come to the ankles or only a few inches below the frock. Leggings should be solid as you want most attention to be focused on the frock. When you spin in one of these dresses, you'll feel like a princess ready to attend a ball. This style is great for mehndi functions.
Hope you are able to design something you love for the next function you attend!

Another good one based in the UK, but atrociously expensive: http://www.zarmina.com
Hi Jayne. Most people get their clothes custom made, especially for weddings. I've got an article coming out soon about how to get Pakistani clothes made in Lahore. This online shop looks legit, although it's cheaper to get stuff custom-made locally than to buy ready-made online: http://www.786shop.com/dresses/Pakistani_clothing.asp
Prices on this other site are lower, but the designs aren't as intricate: http://www.emarkaz.com/shop/store/emarkazDresses.php?cat_id=339
You can also google Indian party wear and you're sure to get more options for online purchase.
Can you post pictures or add a link to places one could purchase online - or even the best shops once in country?
If people dressed that way in Pakistan, they'd have serious problems!
Heather, and yep, some of the Western women who come to Thailand are INCREDIBLY disrespectful to Thai culture with the clothing they wear. The Thais are just shocked by what they wear in Bangkok, things that should only be worn on a beach and, even then, only at night with no one around :-)
Oh, I missed this one - great photo too!
Interesting. Excellent resource for Pakistani shoppers.
Wow thanks for the education!
I'm in Bangkok right now and I am totally shocked what the Western women are wearing. It's quite disgusting, and I even saw girls in the mall in their bikinis and see-through cover ups! Hello, Bangkok is not near a beach! As for my pic, I was going for the Bollywood wedding dance scene pose.: )
