Palin Crazy?

Our Obsession is Obliterating the Issues

Bay Buchanan, Republican strategist, Kathleen Parker, Conservative columnist, Michelle Laxalt, Republican consultant and Conservative, appeared on the Larry King Show tonight. Of course, the topic was Governor Sarah Palin, GOP Vice Presidential candidate. Both Parker and Laxalt have blasted John McCain's choice of running mate, Parker calling Palin "clearly not qualified." The topic of tonight's show is "Is she hurting the Republican ticket?" Larry King also had his usual Democratic and Republican pundits on air to weigh in on the candidacy of Sarah Palin. A huge portion of the show was devoted to what is perceived to be an unflattering Newsweek cover photo and it's fairness or lack thereof. The candidate appears to have a couple of blemishes and some facial hair that were not air brushed out.

Elsewhere in the news, the stock market plunged 690 points today - a fact pointed out by several participants in tonight's show.

Have we all gone Palin crazy? We, the general public and the media, are seemingly obsessed with the phenomenon that is Palin. I'll be honest, personally I can't get enough of Tina Fey. She is so much funnier than the other actors playing this years politicians. It's a dead on satire and it's hilarious. If nothing else McCain's running mate has made the political season more fun than it would have been. Sadly, the issues are getting lost in all the humor, and the issues are extremely sad. The state of the economy alone is enough to put voters in a tailspin.

The presidential campaign itself has taken a drastically negative turn. All kinds of name calling and accusations are being thrown. Mostly these are in response to the continual spoofing of Palin and what is seen as the unfair treatment she is getting from the media. Normally negative campaigning works but in this instance the poll numbers are showing otherwise for Senator McCain and his running mate - an indication that at least indirectly Sarah Palin's candidacy is having a negative affect on the Republican ticket.

On Larry King Live tonight, Kathleen Parker and Michelle Laxalt seemed to feel that McCain made a mistake in his choice and it's hurt his credibility with them. Bay Buchanan just seems to have a "girl crush" on Palin and holds firm to the party line consisting mainly of ooohing and aahing over how much excitement Palin has brought to their candidate's political rallies. To most people by now it's obvious that McCain the Maverick simply made a "hail Mary" choice that is not working out. Choose a woman and women will vote for her was probably the logic. The smart women I know, Democrats and Republicans alike, are insulted by the choice.

Great article as always. Good point. We are losing the issues in all the hoopla.

Sarah Palin's beauty queen mask is coming off, and the Christo-fascist under it is being seen by more and more....and thankfully, to counter what Sheryl said, this election is most definitely NOT in god's hands...

I absolutely hate the fact that this woman championed a wolf killing project that slaughtered baby wolves while she gleefully laughed about it. and rewarded the killers. (Here is the link: http://action.defenders.org/site/Ecard?ecard_id=2041&s_newOptIn=t&JServSessionIdr001=8gnvsd9gx1.app27a) For me, a person's physicality should not be made fun of -- what the person does IS fair game, though! BTW, that photo should receive ZERO complaints from the Palin camp since she has been telling us all how she is just one of the average folks who keeps it real. Newsweek was just keepin' real for that "Straight Talk Express", right?

I'm just generally so disappointed with our choices in this election. I just count on the fact that it's in God's hands, and whoever wins is for a reason. A lesson to America, I think, either way.

I'm convinced the American voter is PLAIN crazy ;-) ...and I'm insulted that the most subversive and corrupt anti-American candidate is in the front runner position to be the next POTUS..we are in a sorry state of affairs.
