Palin VS. Biden: Who Won the VP Debate and How Will This Affect You?

Kaitlyn Joseph
If you watched the vice president debate on October 2, then you know that it was a big deal. It was a monumental debate concerning the 2008 election. Everyone was watching and waiting for one of the candidates slip up. If one had slipped up then the person who got out clean would have had the obvious lead. Neither candidate slipped up in a large way which leaves the presidential race up for grabs.

Many people, "experts", have said that it was a clear Palin victory. Immediately after the debate 80% (Democrats and Republicans) of the people from a focus group declared that Palin was the winner. The day after the debate Fox News did another pole and found that 60% of democrats felt that Biden held his own and came out the winner.

The VP debate may have changed a few votes. In the focus group that Fox News had (approximately 30 people), about 5 of them changed their vote to McCain. Another two changed their vote to Obama. Now some would say Fox News is slanted and others would just say that the focus group was slanted, but the group was varied between ages and ethnicities. For about 75% of the focus group, their vote had not changed or they were still undecided.

Did the VP debate help you decide who you would vote for? Perhaps it even changed your vote from one candidate to another. But the time old question appears: Does the Vice President really matter if they never see the Oval Office? In this election it does. There have been some people and doctors claiming that it is possible that McCain may pass away in the next 8 years. That could be in the 2008-2012 term or even a second term. Palin would then be the first female President for the U.S.

Then there is the Obama side. As sad as it is, there would probably be many assassination attempts on Obama. If that were to happen then Biden would be President . So what he truly thinks and how he votes could come into play if Obama were elected.

So with sides still split evenly, who is really in the lead? No one knows. And no one will know until all the votes are tallied and counted. Every year there is a guessing game to figure it out ahead of time. Sometimes the guesses are right and sometimes they are wrong. But they will always be guesses, because to absolutely know beforehand would mean that every American has made up their mind and has been polled. If that were the case, there would not be an election. Get registered, cast your vote. It is not always about sides, it is about what is best for America and her people. VOTE!
