Palm Tunsgen E2: An Excellent Innovation in Technology

Lois Ryan
For a few years, I had been looking for a hand-held device that could store and read electronic books, or e-books for short. I always thought of it as holding an entire library in the palm of my hand. I'm not really sure what I wanted, I looked into pricing for the palm, pocket PC and PDAs. Unfortunately, at that time, these devices ranged between $500-600 at Circuit City. Our computer at home did not have Internet access at that time. This device was not something that I could easily plug into a computer at the local Kinko's or public library. There was software I needed to download from the website.

We finally did get Road Runner from Time Warner. Last year, once again, I priced the different hand held devices and was delighted these had dropped considerable in price, something that would fit my budget. I settled on a Palm Tungsten E2, with a 100 megabyte memory expansion card, paying approximately $250 at the local Staples.

The features of this device include:

There is a bright color display-"your photos and video clips come to life in rich, dazzling color" (http://www.palm.com).

Excellent memory-there is room to store all your documents. If your battery dies because you forget to recharge, like I often do, you will not lose your information.

You can carry Word, Excel and Power point documents with you, as well as PDF documents.

There is a longer battery life between charges than older versions of the Palm. If I use my Palm continuously, I only need to recharge every other day.

It is user-friendly. I never had a problem downloading from my computer to my Palm.

I use my Palm for three different purposes. The first is to read e-books, the main reason why I wanted this device in the first place. I can either read books in PDF and E-Reader formats. There are many sites where you can purchase e-books and download directly to the Palm. I usually go to http://www.fictionwise.com because of the excellent prices.

I also listen to audio books. Http://www.audible.com has a membership club. For a monthly fee, you get two free audio books a month.

Finally, I use my Palm to listen to music. It is very easy to transfer songs, that I save to my computer, to my Palm using Real Player.

You can purchase the Palm Tungsten E2 directly from http:www.Palm.com. Prices start from $199.99.

Other places you can purchase this amazing piece of technology are:

Staples superstores either at a store or http://www.staples.com

http://www.circuitcity.com I had checked with a couple Circuit City stores in my area. They no longer carry hand held devices in the stores, They are only sold through the website. However, you can check with your local Circuit City to see if they carry the Palm.

http://www.bestbuy.com.

All the above stores and Web sites offer the Palm E2 for $199.99. However, http://www.overstock.com sells this device for $159.99.

Wherever you shop, the Palm Tungsten E2 is an excellent innovation in technology. Everybody should have one.
