Despite the name, Palmyra PIzza does not just serve pizzas but also offers a delicious array of food that includes other foods like falafel and kebab. You can also get different types of shawarma. The doner kebab is a popular dish. Also, the wraps come in two different sizes, allowing the diner to cater to people of varying appetites.
A personal favorite is the falafel and hummus wrap. Sold at just around 4 pounds, it is a great way to fill the stomach on a tight budget. Each wrap is filled with salad and sauces. As mentioned earlier, you can choose to sit in at the restaurant at no extra charge. You may also wish to take it out.
Some advice for first-time customers. When ordering takeout, simply go up to the counter and place your order. The staff behind the counter will assist you with takeout orders. For those wishing to eat in at the restaurant, simply pick a table and have a seat. A separate member of staff will assist you with your orders.
If you choose to sit-in, the fastest way to get the bill is to simply walk up to the counter after you are finished and pay at the counter.
For students, do not forget to mention that you are a student. You may have to show your identification card, though recently I have not had to do so, and the staff usually takes your word for it. Being a student entitles you to a 10% discount.
Another great menu item for students is the 3 pound tomato and cheese pizza. It is a good sized pizza, around 9 inches in diameter, and is offered at a very reasonable price for students. Though not the healthiest late-night snack, it is a popular option for students with midnight hungers and works well with wallet restrictions.
The food quality in general is pretty standard and is consistent with what you pay for it. The service is also pretty good in that you can always ask for tap water or extra chili sauce without too much fuss.
Whether you are a student or not, the next time you find yourself in Edinburgh looking for some inexpensive food choices, check out Palmyra on Nicolson Street for some good, solid food.
