Their goal is to plant "25,000 native species this season." This endeavor will only be possible if the people of Palo Alto volunteer their time to help. The importance of this project is critical to increase endangered bird and wildlife habitat for species such as the "salt marsh harvest mouse and the California clapper rail", according to Acterra. They will also need volunteers to help with general shoreline clean up, mulching, and watering.
