When my son was first born, I would use cotton squares dipped in warm water. He never had a problem with rashes as a newborn. They did not start until we had to take him to daycare. I warned them that he poops a lot but I do not think they changed his diaper frequently enough. He would go in to school in the morning fine but would come home bleeding with a terrible diaper rash. I could not take it anymore.
I went to the store and bought the softest wipes I could find, Pampers Sensitive Wipes. I figured I would give them a shot. It turns out that I love them. They are so soft not abrasive at all. What I really like about them is that they are not dripping with soap. Some wipes are so full of soap they can really burn your child's tushy if he/she already has a rash. I also like the fact that there is no smell to them.
You can buy these Pampers Sensitive Wipes in a tub or a refill value pack. Since I am a new mom, I was buying six tubs at a time. It was costing a small fortune. Then I realized that I could just buy the refill value back and keep refilling the tub. The woman at the register must have thought I was nuts to buy so many tubs.
You could buy the value pack of refills at Diaper.com for a pack of 420 selling at $17.99. I think it would be cheaper to go to Target. I have been able to purchase them at the target store for $8.99 and you can use a coupon to save even more. I have also been able to purchase them at Babies R Us. But there again I would wait until they go on sale. Sometimes you can find them there on sale for two refill value packs for $11.49 and you can still use a coupon.
Overall, I highly recommend using Pampers Sensitive Wipes for your little one to prevent diaper rashes.
