The primary difference between conventional HD video recording and full HD recording is that the former is capable of 1,440 pixels horizontally and has a total of 1.55 million pixels while full HD recording has 1,920 horizontal pixels and a total of 2.07 million pixels. Pixels of this amount on any camcorder would give users the highest detail and resolution.
Rudy Vitti, Panasonic Consumer Electronics Company's national marketing manager said, "Panasonic's first generation of HD camcorders with the AVCHD format made history in the diffusion of HD, but these new models make Living in High Definition even more of a reality for even more people." He goes on to add that recording full HD will be very easy and convenient with their company's compact HD camcorders and that everyday events can be recorded and enjoyed in HD.
Panasonic claims that the HDC-SD5 is the world's smallest, palm-style 3CCD full-HD camcorder and can record videos onto a SDHC / SD memory cards and that the HDC-SD5's size allows for ultimate portability. Panasonic's HDC-SD5 also has a new USB Host function for easy data storage and playback.
On the other hand, the HDC-SX5 can record full-HD motion images to SDHC / SD memory cards and DVD discs. The SX5 can record up to 180 minutes of video on an 8GB SD Memory card and 60 minutes of video on a 3 inch DVD-R dual layer disc. Another feature of the SX5 is its ability to internally copy a video from the memory card to the DVD disc without a need for a PC.
The HDC-SD5 and HDC-SX5 uses the AVCHD format so that it can record in full high definition video with a 1920x1080 pixel resolution. Both models also uses Panasonic's 3CCD camera system which is a professional broadcast feature that allows vivid rendering, true-to-life colors, outstanding detail and rich gradation. The HDC-SD5 and HDC-SX5 also has Panasonic's advanced Optical Image Stabilizer that can minimize the effect of hand shake. According to Panasonic, all of this latest technology incorporated on both camcorders helps users produce the clearest and crispest images that would go well on large-screen, high resolution TVs where the slightest imperfections can be easily seen.
The HDC-SD5 will be available in September for $999.95 while the HDC-SX5 will cost $899.95 but is also due out in September.
