For the record, my last Panasonic lasted a good 25 years (not a misprint) before I finally had to say goodbye. But I'd have to say my new one far surpasses my old one by a mile! Here's why:
Color and Design:
This phone comes in black, metallic gray and silver and black. My old one just came in beige. I would've preferred beige again, only because I like lighter colors, but this will do. It also comes with a 1" LCD screen that easily shows the current time, date and highlights whether it's fully charged. Also when someone calls it announces the caller's name. This is a definite plus eliminating my need for glasses to see who's calling. Also, both the keyboard and LCD light up when you pick it up. This is especially useful at night when someone calls because it elminates the need to turn on an extra light.
The only criticism I have with this particular handset is you have to clean off the screen on a regular basis. It doesn't take long but it can get annoying, just another thing you have to do. Other than that this 6" handset is lightweight but durable and is easy to maneuver.
Standout Features:
Rechargeable batteries are included, 2 AAA. Any time you get a new gadget that comes with batteries included is a plus in my book! Although it takes a full 7 hours for them to charge once they're charged a notice comes on the screen. From then on out your screen says fully charged. So you never have to figure out if your battery is empty or near empty. However, if it is empty the handset beeps if you're on another call or alerts you with an live announcement. I can use my phone approx. 5 hours before it has to be recharged. The only minus is you can only use Ni-Mh batteries that are rechargeable.
The one feature that stands out with a Panasonic cordless phone from all the others is the clarity. Through the wonders of technology they're come up with DECT 6.0, which basically means it won't interfere with any of your other electronics in your home. It's crystal clear, no fuzziness and has good range. I never have any problems hearing anyone. This is definitely a quality product!
In addition, it comes with talking Caller ID, announcing who's calling you or the number of the caller. There's no need to fumble for your glasses anymore just to see who's calling. Another nice bonus, it comes with an alarm. Since my phone isn't anywhere near my stove I use this to alert me if something is in the oven if I'm on my computer. It also has 7 pre-recorded voice announcements, which range from, Good Morning to It's time for Dinner to Happy Birthday, etc. Honestly I don't know who would need to be reminded to eat but if this applies to you I guess this would be useful!
Ahhh...the speaker phone. Especially helpful when you're on your computer and don't want to wait for someone to pick up. Also, it helps if someone is trying to give you instructions on fixing your computer or give you directions without having to physically hold your phone. Worth it just for that!
Lastly, I specifically chose this model for the digital answering machine. It holds up to 18 min. of messages. Although it doesn't beep it does have a red light that flashes on and off. Personally I don't need a beep but some people might miss that feature. You can also turn the answer button on or off. In addition It comes with a phone book where you can store up to 50 names and numbers.
Although I could've bought this model on-line instead I chose instead to buy it in person at Best Buy. It cost approx. $75 and came with a limited 1 year warranty.
All-in-all a great value for the money!
