Pancakes Review: All-Natural Whole Grain Pancakes by De Wafelbakkers

These Pancakes Were a Little Hearty by Themselves but Tasted Great with Fruit

I don't have the time to make pancakes very often although I really enjoy homemade ones. Until I can find more time to start making pancakes for my son at breakfast we have been trying out different frozen ones. Now, frozen foods are not a favorite of mine but I don't mind that we are eating them for a little while. We have actually found all of our frozen breakfast foods from one company, De Wafelbakkers. We already have tried several of their frozen pancakes and frozen waffles. Most recently we tried De Wafelbakkers All Natural Whole Grain Pancakes.

Being a fan of whole grains I was not concerned about how hearty these pancake would taste. The previous various pancakes and waffles that we had tried from the company had not been overly hearty so I wasn't really expecting a change from any of them. When I made my son one of the All Natural Whole Grain Pancakes by De Wafelbakkers I also made him an All Natural Flaxseed Apple Cinnamon Waffle by De Wafelbakkers. I gave him both the waffle and pancake at the same time and he clearly expressed that he preferred to eat waffle over the pancake. I tasted the pancake and could see that it was not as sweet as the waffle. This was easily remedied by adding some apple sauce to the pancake. This was the first time that my son didn't want to eat a De Wafelbakkers product by itself. I don't think that it was super hearty, just less sweet to what my son, who is two, was use to. On the bright side I was confident that these pancakes were going to be very healthy.

The list of ingredients and nutrition facts on the box of All Natural Whole Grain Pancakes by De Wafelbakkers clued me in on how healthy these pancakes were. The pancakes were made from whole wheat flour, water, corn syrup, soy bean oil and/or canola oil, sugar, fructan, whey, salt, egg whites, natural butter flavor, soy lecithin, leavening which was made from calcium acid, pyrophosphate and baking soda and xanthan gum was the last ingredient listed. The nutrition facts were for a pair of pancakes and two pancakes offered one hundred and eighty calories with fifty calories from fat. The nutrition facts went on to say that in a pair of these pancakes there was three hundred milligrams of sodium, thirty-two grams of carbohydrates, nine grams of sugars, six grams of fiber and four grams of protein. As well the minerals and vitamins section of the All Natural Whole Grain Pancakes by De Wafelbakkers' nutrition facts listed calcium with ten percent and iron with eight percent. All in all I thought that ingredients and nutrition facts looked good.

These pancakes are not going to be our first choice of frozen breakfast foods but I have a feeling that we will get them again. Along with the waffle that I gave my son when I gave him one of these pancakes we have also tried the company's Organic Blueberry Pancakes, A+ Cinnamon All Natural Whole Grain Spelt Sweet Potato Pancakes, All Natural Buckwheat Berry Flaxseed Pancakes, All Natural Flaxseed Apple Cinnamon Waffles and their Organic Blueberry Spelt Waffles. I hate to knock a healthy food like this but if I had to be completely honest I would say that both me and my son like the All Natural Whole Grain Pancakes by De Wafelbakkers the least. I still thought that they were good though and would recommend to give them a try. They are only a dollar and twenty-five cents for a box of six pancakes.
