Pandemic 2 - Video Game Review

Walter Kovacs
Pandemic 2 by Crazy Monkey Games is a ton of fun. It is played on your PC or Mac over the internet, and the objective is to completely wipe out the population of the world. If you can do this, you win the game. If not, the game calculates your score.

You create a disease, choose what type of disease it is (Parasite, Virus, or Bacteria). Each of these diseases have different characteristics that define them. The type of disease you choose will definitely change the type of game you'll be playing. If you choose a fast moving disease, you will have to keep it under the radar. If not, you should do fine with it out in the open air.

This disease is very complicated. You have to keep people from closing airports and ship ports so as to keep your disease moving. If you can't do this, your disease won't make it out of the country it starts in. As the game moves on, you can add characteristics to your disease to make it more and more fatal. The more traits your disease has, the quicker it will eradicate the world's population. Once you have your disease in every region of the world, you must quickly make it extremely lethal so as to destroy the population before a vaccine can be created and sent out. If you don't, your disease will get stopped in its tracks.

This game is a pretty simple game. It is just a map, and when you click on a country or a region, you are given statistics about the region including living population, dead population, infected, and healthy. These are all very useful. If you can implement your disease in every country, you can activate the killing feature in it to destroy the country.

One of the more important things also is how to distribute your disease. You can purchase infection methods including airborne, waterborne, rats, and insects. These will make your disease easier to catch, making it much easier to get your disease around before countries begin to close ship and air ports.

In the end, this is just an internet game, and is extremely simple. This is why I am only rating it out of 5 stars instead out of 10. It is not complicated enough to be rated over ten stars. I would rate this game a 4.8 out of 5 stars. It is a lot of fun and can be played by any person age 11 or greater. It does take a while to develop, but you can put the game into fast motion and wait about 4 minutes for it to catch. This is a fun game.
