Abby Normal here and I am back with the Star of RuPaul's Drag season 2. And the 2 time MVP of RuPaul's Drag U.Here's the always entertaining Pandora Boxx! Are you ready to field questions from your Fandoras?
PB: Yeah.
AN: How do you maintain that beautiful porcelain skin?
PB: I maintain that skin through very good lighting. A lot of makeup. And requiring everyone to stand ten feet away from me.
AN: How long does it take you to get into drag?
PB: It takes about two hours, a big tub of spackle and a team of mules.
AN: Are you single or married?
PB: It's not legal in the state I live in but I am engaged.
AN: You are engaged. Congratulations!
AN: Did you just move to L.A.?
PB: I did just move to L.A. I have been here for like a month.
AN: You know LA is so hot it can use all the SHADE you queens can provide! So thanks for making the desert just that much cooler.
AN: Do you have a favorite joke?
PB: No. I don't have a favorite joke. It is kind of funny. I am really bad at telling jokes. I do have them but they are not the standard jokes that you hear. I have favorite comedians and things that they say. I guess they are not really jokes.
AN: I did standup for years and you do bits not "jokes."
PB: When I think of jokes it is kind of like knock-knock jokes. The only joke that I remember kind of gets a laugh just because it's terrible.
AN: I like a terrible joke now and then.
PB: How do you get a nun pregnant?
Fu*k her!
That is the only joke I ever remember. It is so dumb but it makes me laugh.
AN: It made me laugh.
AN: What has been your all time favorite drag moment?
PB: I would have to say that my all time favorite drag moment was being on Drag Race. It was an incredible moment. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity.
AN: Who were your comedy and drag inspirations?
PB: Oh gosh my comedy inspirations were people like Carol Burnett, Lilly Tomlin, Goldie Hawn and Madeline Kahn. I really like a woman that can be pretty but she is a total goofball like Cameron Diaz or Drew Barrymore.
That is kind of how I based the character of Pandora. Kind of ditzy but kind of a Suzanne Summers' Chrissy Snow in "Three's Company." Ditzy but not as ditzy because you realize that she is playing you a little.
Drag queens? I am constantly influenced by drag queens. RuPaul was a huge inspiration of course. I think RuPaul is an inspiration to any drag queen and should be. People like Lady Bunny, Cherry Vine and Jackie Beat. The list can just go on and on. Oh, and Divine. I can't leave Divine out. I think Divine might have been one of the first famous drag queens I ever watched in a movie and I was totally disturbed.
AN: What would be your three biggest tips for new drag queens?
PB: They would be Don't Do It, Run Away, no I'm kidding.
I think that my biggest tips would be to stay true to yourself and to realize that you… There are different reasons for doing drag. Mostly the reason to do drag is you want to be a performer. So then my next tip would be to remember that you are there to entertain the crowd. You are not performing in your living room! And #3: Do some research.
AN: Do research?
PB: Yeah. Google. You can research anything. You can look up drag queens. You can look up makeup styles and different queens that came before you. You can go on YouTube and you can watch drag numbers. There is a wealth of information that some queens never even bother to look at and never even know the legendary queens that have come before them. You need to know that. It makes you a better performer.
AN: Do you find that your childhood pain translates into comedy?
PB: I think that any pain and suffering in anyone's life translates into comedy. People go into comedy if they have some pain in there life. I think that's pretty…
AN: I prefer it to be someone else's pain. Please, No more pain!
PB: I think that if you can manage to find some comedy in it and be able to laugh about it, it is very therapeutic. I don't really know anybody that doesn't like to laugh. And it feels good! If you can laugh about things that were painful and other people can laugh with you then it begins the healing process.
AN: Amen to that.
Is there anything else you want to get out there today?
PB: Just go and buy my Cooter. It is waiting for you. It is only ninety nine cents. I have a cheap ass cooter. It's available On iTunes and Amazon.com.
PB: It is ridiculous but I wanted to do something funny, dancey and outrageous.
AN: Are they playing it in the clubs?
PB: I don't know. It was just released and I have performed it all over. I am continuing my "Pandora's Cooter Tour." I am going to be going to a bunch of different cities and will be doing the song. It is mixed in with some standup comedy and other songs. It will be a good time.
AN: Will you be lip syncing or will you be singing?
PB: I will probably do both. I need more practice singing live because it is not my forte. I'd like to do my own songs so that the whole show is actually my own work. I co-wrote Cooter with Jipsta. He is a gay white boy rapper. Joe Cole and David Petrilla did the music part. There was a lot of back and forth since we are not in the same city. So there is a lot that goes into this. I really have a new respect for major recording artists that sell albums because of the amount of work that goes into it.
AN: Pandora, I'd like to thank you for taking the time to answer all of the Fandora's questions today. I wish you a successful "Cooter Tour!" And thank you!
PB: Thank you!
