The Panhandle has a wide range of play space for the young and young at heart. It takes its name from the oblong structured grass feilds, basketball courts, and running/cycling track which is east of Golden Gate Park. This is the same track where the Komen's 5k run/walk and the city marathon Bay to Bay Breakers both bring thousands of runners every year.

In the spring of 2010, the local neighbohood coalitions of the Haight joined together to build Nature's Conservatory Children's Playground here. Among an amazing jungle gym tower, tire swings and a sand pit kids can romp around dozens of unique plant species. The aroma fills the air with fresh, uplifting scents from eucalyptus and rosemary types, to name a few. The Panhandle park is several blocks large and is located between Masonic Ave, Ashbury Ave, Oak St. and Fell St.
