The Pantech Impact has a downside in text messaging. Because of its oversensitive touchpad and weird key placement, it is quite hard to write text messages on this phone. It is a clamshell phone which is 4.2 by 2 by 0.5 inches. Pantech weighs 4.5 ounces, which isn't that much but you can definitely feel the chunkiness while carrying it in your pocket. It has got a 240x400 screen resolution with measurements just over 2.6 inches; not too fancy if considering other phones. The screen and the keyboard is placed inside the flip top. On the outside of the flip, Pantech Impact has a number pad with a small OLED display.
The Pantech Impact has a clean startup screen with all of its applications conveniently placed under Shortcuts and Menu tabs. On the main screen, only time, date, carrier and battery charge is shown. This is quite convenient for people who are a bit conservative and don't like flashy startup screens. There is nothing under the Shortcuts tab until you place shortcuts of the applications.
One thing that bothers me the most about this phone is the outrageous difficulty to make a simple phone call. First of all, in order to make a call, you need to press and hold the Hold button. The problem is that the Hold button is too sensitive and you may accidentally release it, thus it makes you to repeat the procedure. The keys are too close to each other, so it is very likely that you will hit a wrong button. Not to mention, if you do manage to make a call, the quality is just average.
The Pantech Impact's multimedia features are not very great. The device does not support flash, so its browsing abilities are average. However, it has got a nice 2-megapixel camera which is fairly good at absorbing excess of brightness.
All in all, the Pantech Impact at a price of $50 (including 2-year contract with AT&N) is not the best phone out there. You could definitely find other phones which have touchscreen features and better multimedia capabilities.
